Famara is the heart of paragliding on Lanzarote — a wide, gentle training area near Teguise that has hosted the first flight of nearly every pilot trained on the island.
Why fly here
- Gentle by design. Variable winds and rolling slopes mean conditions can be matched to the day, not the other way around.
- Wide, safe landings. Few sites on the island offer this much margin for error.
- Famara as a gateway. Once you're confident here, the rest of the island opens up — the high ridge of Risco de Famara, the volcanic launches in the centre, the coastal sites in the south.
What to expect on the day
Famara works as a teaching site, a confidence-building first-flight site, and a kiting area for visiting pilots. You'll be briefed on the slope, the wind, and the landing area, and your tandem flight or ground-handling session will be paced to the conditions.
Best for
First-time flyers, nervous flyers, and anyone who wants their introduction to paragliding to be calm rather than dramatic. The flight back along the Teguise area with a view toward the Risco de Famara and Famara beach is its own reward.
