El Cuchillo

A tandem flight you'll remember for the rest of your trip

About This Flying Site

Launch facing a real volcanic caldera in the heart of Tinajo. From above, the view is otherworldly β€” black craters, red earth, and the patchwork of farmland below. One of Lanzarote's most striking inland flights.

The Wind Decides Where We Fly

Lanzarote's wind shifts daily β€” north cliffs, south slopes, or coastal sites depending on conditions. Your pilot picks the best one the morning of your flight; you're booking the experience, not the location.

El Cuchillo is one of our regular sites β€” if conditions line up on your date, this is where you'll fly.

More about El Cuchillo

El Cuchillo is one of the most photogenic launches on Lanzarote β€” a clean takeoff on the rim of a dormant volcanic caldera in the Tinajo municipality, looking out across a sea of black scoria toward the Atlantic.

Why fly here

  • Unique landscape. The crater below is the kind of view you can't fake β€” pilots use it as a backdrop in nearly every clip filmed on the island.
  • Reliable conditions. When the wind sits in the N sector, El Cuchillo turns on consistently, with smooth lift along the rim.
  • Approachable. At 350 m above the surrounding plain, the takeoff is high enough to give a proper flight without the exposure of the bigger ridge sites.

What to expect on the day

A short drive from Arrecife (about 30 minutes) brings you up the volcanic slope of Tinajo. You'll be briefed at takeoff, kit up, and launch into the caldera air. Expect a flight of around 15–25 minutes depending on conditions, finishing on the open ground below.

Best for

Pilots who want a memorable first paragliding experience over a landscape that genuinely feels alien. The smooth coastal-influenced air also makes it a comfortable site for guests who are nervous about flying.
